SAM OCT 3
9th Annual OutRun Hunger 5K
SAM OCT 3
The OutRun Hunger 5K is an annual Fort Bend County event featuring a professionally timed 5K, a Kids Run, and fundraising entries. Harvest Green by Johnson Development hosts the race, which benefits East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry. It accommodates both runners and families; participants can compete for age-group awards, walk the 5K route, or bring strollers. The course is suitable for walkers, not exclusively for fast runners, and the top three men and women in each age group receive finisher medals. Following the race, attendees can enjoy a family-focused gathering with a bounce house, face painting, vendor booths, and photo opportunities. The fundraising structure allows runners and children to link their race day to local hunger relief efforts in Fort Bend County.
Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Galveston
SAM OCT 10
The Day of the Dead Half Marathon takes place on a fall morning at Stewart Beach, located at 401 Seawall Blvd in Galveston, Texas. Bigfoot Running Company organizes this event, which features a Dia de los Muertos theme. Participants can select from a Kids Dash, 1 Mile, 5K, Quarter Marathon, or Half Marathon. Packet pickup occurs before the start of the races. The Kids Dash begins first, followed by the main races after the National Anthem is sung. The event is structured as a beach-side running party rather than a standard road race. A costume contest is held before the start, and a live DJ announces participant names. All finishers receive medals and soft t-shirts, and Bigfoot Trophy awards complement the organizer's Bigfoot theme. Aid stations are positioned along the course. After completing their race, runners can access snacks, drinks, and a post-race rally tent. The event is geared towards families, offering youth pricing for participants aged 12 and under in the 5K and Quarter Marathon, along with group discounts and opportunities to volunteer before running.
Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas
SAM OCT 10
The Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas is an October race series held at Northshore Park in The Woodlands, Texas. The primary event is a USATF-sanctioned 10-mile road race, complemented by two shorter races: the 3.1 Armadillo Run 5K and the One 4 Texas Kids’ Fun Run. The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department organizes the event, which has a limited number of entries. All three races begin and end at Northshore Park, proceeding through The Woodlands' streets. Over 1,200 participants register, including 10-mile runners, 5K runners, families, and children in the short race. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office handles lane closures, with officers at intersections and deputies directing traffic when safe. Following the finish, a post-race party is held for runners and families.
Haunted 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at Katy, TX (41)
SAM OCT 10
Sugar Land Half Marathon, 10k, & Mile
DIM OCT 11
The Sugar Land Half Marathon, 10K, & Mile begins and ends at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, southwest of Houston. The event offers a half marathon, 10K, mile, Kids Half Marathon, and virtual participation. This suits runners seeking a longer road race, families, and those preferring shorter distances. The half marathon course is largely flat and fast, featuring accessible parking, a convenient start/finish area, and aid stations with water and Gatorade along the route. The half marathon follows a true loop course without out-and-back segments, and the 10K has been similarly redesigned. The half marathon route predominantly uses right turns, contributing to a fluid experience compared to courses with frequent reversals or crossings. The finish has been altered so participants enter from behind the venue rather than around the parking lot, with parking remaining accessible after the race begins. The participants include age-group runners, invitational and guardian divisions, wheelchair and para categories, handcycle entrants in the half marathon, pacers, children, and virtual participants. All finishers get a custom medal. The post-race area provides food, live music, awards, and a family-friendly gathering. The race is also a component of the Lone Star Race Series, offering incentives for participants completing multiple events.
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Close the Loop 5K 2026
VEN OCT 16
The Close the Loop 5K is a morning run/walk in Houston, Texas, beginning at 7 a.m. CST. This is the ninth annual event, gathering the Breast Reconstruction Awareness community for a short, accessible race, not solely a competitive one. Plastic surgeons, breast reconstruction patients, office staff, and supporters participate along the route. The event raises awareness and funds for breast reconstruction, charitable care, and research, using the #BRA5K hashtag for race-day posts.
Shipley Donut Dash
SAM OCT 17
The Shipley Donut Dash is a fall race at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, offering 5K, 10K, and Kids Dash distances. The race centers on Shipley Do-Nuts, providing runners and walkers with donut stops during the course and additional donuts at the finish. The event embraces its theme with a donut-themed shirt, a donut finisher medal, and donuts and coffee for participants. It suits runners aiming for a specific time, families with children participating in the shorter dash, and walkers primarily interested in the treats. A portion of the proceeds benefits Kids' Meals, a Houston-area charity that combats childhood hunger.
2026 Child Advocates 5k and 1k Superhero Run
SAM OCT 17
The Child Advocates Superhero Run is an annual 5K and 1K event held at CITYCENTRE Houston, located at 800 Town and Country Blvd. The 5K, which is chip-timed, begins in the morning, with the shorter 1K for children and families following. Participants, including runners, walkers, and spectators, are part of the day's activities. The superhero theme is literal, as attendees are encouraged to wear capes, masks, and costumes. Following the 1K, the event features award ceremonies for both the race and a costume contest. The run benefits Child Advocates, Harris County's CASA program. This organization recruits, trains, and supports volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in the Houston area. These advocates work with children's cases and provide judicial recommendations regarding permanent placements, linking a family-friendly morning with a significant local cause.
Galveston Ultra Trail
SAM OCT 17
Galveston Ultra Trail takes place on Galveston Island, Texas, with the Gulf of Mexico bordering the course instead of a road shoulder or forest trail. Trail Racing Over Texas is the organizer. The event offers distances from a 1 Mile Walk, Kids Run, 5K run/walk, and 5K ruck, up to a 10K, half marathon, 50K relay, and a 50K ultra. The course features miles of open beach, with hard-packed sand suitable for consistent running and ocean views throughout. The 50K is a point-to-point race across the island. Shorter distances offer the same coastal experience for walkers, ruckers, new runners, relay teams, and ultra runners.
2026 Miles 4 Matthew 5K/10K
SAM OCT 17
Miles 4 Matthew begins and ends at No Label Brewing Co., offering in-person 5K, 10K, and 1K run/walk options alongside virtual 5K and 10K choices. The in-person 5K and 10K take place in the morning, providing a straightforward local race for participants with a short family-friendly distance available with the longer routes. Matthew’s family and friends established the race to honor Matthew, who passed away from leukemia at age 9. He was first diagnosed with ALL at age 4 and later experienced a rare relapse. The event generates funds for families managing pediatric cancer, continuing to focus on Matthew’s narrative: a child remembered for his courage, humor, and zest for life during treatment.
Haunted 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at Deer Park, TX (42)
SAM OCT 17
The Haunted 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at Deer Park is a morning race in Deer Park, Texas, offering 5K, 10K, and half marathon distances. It begins at 8:00 AM from the large pavilion. Registration must be completed via RunSignup prior to race day, as no on-site sign-ups will be available. The 5K and 10K follow an out-and-back course, with the 5K completed twice and the 10K completed four times. The half marathon also utilizes an out-and-back route. Packet pickup is efficient, opening 30 minutes before the start and concluding 10 minutes prior to the race.
