Sugar Loaf 5K
SAM OCT 3
The Sugar Loaf 5K is a morning road race in the historic hamlet of Sugar Loaf, located in New York’s Hudson Valley. This is a local 5K designed for a broad range of participants; walkers and beginners can complete the distance, while regular runners will find enough gentle climbing to make it a worthwhile effort. The course follows country roads through the hamlet, with Sugar Loaf Mountain visible overhead. The terrain features a mix of flat sections and mild hills. The Sugar Loaf Community Foundation organizes the event, with proceeds benefiting infrastructure improvements within the hamlet. Following the race, participants and observers can explore the hamlet’s artisan shops, galleries, and restaurants, which are situated near the race venue.
Mohawk Mountain Race
DIM OCT 11
Mohawk Mountain Race is a fall trail race at Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort in Connecticut, offering distances from 5K through marathon. The mountain, typically used for skiing and snowboarding, features routes that climb and descend on steep resort trails rather than rolling through a flat park. Even the 5K route includes 1,332 feet of elevation gain, the 10K doubles that loop for 2,664 feet, and the marathon covers 6,338 feet across two half-marathon loops. The shorter races remain on the ski mountain grounds, while the half marathon extends into Mohawk State Forest, totaling 3,169 feet of climbing. The half marathon is also part of Connecticut’s Blue Blazed Trail Running Series, which features races on or partly on the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails and promotes awareness of the Connecticut Forest & Park Association’s trail maintenance efforts. Steep Endurance sponsors the event, targeting runners seeking a challenging trail day with consistent climbs, sharp descents, forest sections, and mountain fall foliage.
The Little Guild 13th Annual Run & Wag 5K
SAM OCT 17
The Little Guild Run & Wag 5K is an annual 5 km race held in Cornwall, Connecticut, starting at 27 Pine Street. The name highlights its unique feature: a running event that includes dogs alongside human participants competing for time. The Little Guild organizes this race, which follows a straightforward format: a local 5K designed for runners and their canine partners. Now in its thirteenth edition, it continues to be a recurring community event in Cornwall, known for its distinct animal-friendly focus.
EDRRC - Ryan's Run Superhero 5k, Villain 10K and Kids (Free) Fun Run.
SAM OCT 17
Ryan's Run offers participants a choice: the Superhero 5K, the Villain 10K, or the free Kids Fun Run. Hosted by the Eastern Dutchess Road Runners Club in Pawling, New York, the children's race begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5K and 10K at 10:00 a.m. The primary route is a 5K circuit within the Town and Village of Pawling; the Superhero 5K covers one circuit, and the Villain 10K covers two. The children's race follows a brief out-and-back path in the park. A comic-book theme adds to the enjoyment, with participants encouraged to wear costumes as heroes or villains. All funds raised support the Ryan McElroy Foundation.
34th Annual Halloween 5K and Kids Fun Run
DIM OCT 18
The Brookfield Halloween 5K begins and ends at the Brookfield Municipal Center on Pocono Road in Brookfield, Connecticut. This October running event includes a USATF-certified, chip-timed 5K and a short Kids Fun Run, suitable for runners aiming for a measured time and families seeking a Halloween activity. The 5K course, certified as CT06013JHP, accommodates walkers, strollers, and leashed dogs, contributing to a diverse field. The Kids Fun Run is a 0.23-mile loop within the park. Costumes are encouraged, with awards for the best dressed. All participants get short-sleeve T-shirts, and age-group awards are presented for runners from 8-and-under to 70-plus.
The Salisbury Beast 5K
DIM OCT 18
The Salisbury Beast 5K is a fall run/walk in Salisbury, Connecticut, offering 5K and 10K distances. It takes place on a Sunday morning, beginning at Salisbury Town Hall on Main Street. The 5K course measures 5.0 km and features significant elevation changes, as noted in the race materials. The event accommodates both competitive runners and local participants enjoying a community race.
Cider 5
SAM OCT 24
The CIDER 5 is an annual road event held in late October around South Centerville, New York. Participants can choose between a 5-mile run, a 5K run, or a 5K walk. The event accommodates a wide range of participants, from young children to older adults. The course follows roads around South Centerville, offering open views. Runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators attend the local race day. Knights of Columbus Council #16365 organizes the event, with proceeds supporting charities associated with the council. Parking is available at the Holy Cross church parking lot.
Grin 'N Bear It: Brewster 5K
SAM OCT 24
HVAL Invitational
VEN OCT 30
The HVAL Invitational is a free 5K road race in Litchfield, Connecticut, starting at 3:00 PM. The race begins at White Memorial, a well-known outdoor area in town, following a simple format: one road-running distance and no entry fee. The available details suggest a small, local-style invitational rather than a large festival race. Runners participate for a straightforward 5K in Litchfield, with the start at White Memorial serving as the event's primary local identifier.
Leah's 5K Run/Walk And 1K Kids "Spooktacular" Fun Run
SAM OCT 31
Leah's 5K Run/Walk and 1K Kids "Spooktacular" Fun Run is a Halloween running event in Wappingers Falls, New York. It provides a 5K for runners and walkers, and a 1K option for children, allowing families to participate together on race morning. The start is at 5 Van Wyck Lane in Wappingers Falls. The "Spooktacular" name gives the children's run its Halloween theme. The combination of a walk-friendly 5K with a 1K children's race suggests a local community event designed for parents, kids, casual runners, and those seeking a low-pressure race on October 31.
8 Hours at the Farm
DIM NOV 1
8 Hours at the Farm is a timed trail race on a 4-mile loop at Gurski Farm/Williams Park in Brookfield, Connecticut. Runners choose the full 8-hour race or a shorter 4-hour option, both starting in the morning and ending by cutoff rather than by a fixed distance. The event also includes shorter race choices, including a 5K and 5K Canicross, so the day is not only for ultra runners. The loop mixes single track with rolling farm trails, which means runners pass the start/finish area and see the same competitors often instead of disappearing onto a point-to-point course. The race is run by Steep Endurance, is in its fifth running, and follows the group’s cupless format: aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, and typical trail-race food, but runners must carry their own bottle, pack, or cup.
HVAL Championship
VEN NOV 6
The HVAL Championship is a high school cross-country 5K in Litchfield, Connecticut, featuring separate boys and girls races. It takes place in November. The course is described as flat and fast, presenting a direct championship challenge rather than a lengthy trail run. The varsity race is held at White Memorial in Litchfield, with Greystone Electronics LLC managing timing and results. The competition includes teams from HVAL schools; past participants have featured runners from Christian Heritage School, Forman School, and Harvey School.
