À propos de cette course
Big Bear SquaTCh South is a small, rugged trail race at Harriman State Park in Tuxedo, New York, offering half marathon and 10K distances on lollipop-style routes. It is presented by Sassquad Trail Running and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. The field is capped at 175 runners and hikers across both distances. The race has sold out for four consecutive editions and typically fills by the end of September, making it a compact event rather than a large festival race.
The course presents a true northeast mountain experience: technical singletrack, rocks, roots, steep climbs, steep descents, and one scramble. The half marathon gains over 2,200 feet, with approximately 1,000 feet in the first four miles, while the 10K still includes more than 1,200 feet of climbing. Both distances have a five-hour cutoff, and the half marathon has two additional on-course cutoffs. Registration supports the Trail Conference's efforts to maintain and protect the park trails, including restoration of the 100-year-old Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail; the capitalized “TC” in SquaTCh signifies Trail Conference. A later start time also makes the race convenient for those traveling from New York City by train to Tuxedo.
