À propos de cette course
The Cathedral Caverns Trail Run takes place each November in Cathedral Caverns State Park, Woodville, Alabama, offering 5K and 15K distances. Both races begin at 679 feet, situated in a valley surrounded by mountains and fields. The courses are predominantly unpaved, with approximately 90 percent consisting of dirt trails. This event is designed for individuals new to trail running, as well as experienced runners who prefer challenging terrain. Each distance has a field limit of 300 participants. The typical November weather offers cool mornings and mild afternoons, with average race-day temperatures ranging from 44F to 67F.
The notable feature is the finish, where the final 1.2 miles involve running 0.6 miles into Cathedral Caverns and returning. The cave path accommodates runners in both directions, is illuminated by decorative lights, and maintains a consistent temperature of around 58F year-round. Upon reaching the turnaround point, participants receive a glow stick for the return journey. The 15K route ascends to a peak elevation of 1,065 feet, while the 5K follows the same cave finish but covers a shorter distance. Aid stations are positioned along the course, all finishers receive a medal, and cutoffs are strictly enforced due to scheduled public cave tours immediately following the race.
