À propos de cette course
Screaming Monkey is a trail race held at Eddie D. Jones Park in Keithville, Louisiana, adjacent to the Chimp Haven sanctuary. Participants can select distances ranging from a 10K to a 100-miler, covering a short trail run to a full ultrarunning weekend within the same event. The race utilizes a 15.5-mile loop, which longer-distance runners complete multiple times to achieve their chosen mileage.
The loop consists primarily of single track, incorporating equestrian trail sections, some gravel, and brief road crossings. Each circuit features approximately 1,050 feet of elevation gain and loss, crossing packed dirt with roots, rocks, pine straw, and occasional muddy sections after heavy rain. Aid stations are positioned at the start/finish and along the course, with drop bag access points near miles 9 and 14. because of the proximity of the chimp sanctuary, a brief Chimp Haven tour, limited to 25 participants, may be offered. Complimentary camping at the park contributes to the event's relaxed trail race atmosphere, and finishers of the 100K and 100-mile races receive buckles.
