The Signal Hill Rotary Mutt Run begins at the Granada Launch Ramp near Rosie’s Dog Beach in Belmont Shore, Long Beach. This 1K and 5K running event centers on dogs. Participants can run the 5K solo, with a dog, or opt for the 1K with a dog. The 5K waves commence at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 1K dog wave at 8:45 a.m. Participant numbers are limited to 400. All breeds are welcome provided dogs are leashed, well-behaved, non-aggressive, and remain on the pedestrian path.
The course follows the beach pedestrian path along the Long Beach shoreline, heading from the Rosie’s Dog Beach area towards the pier. The race supports Long Beach Animal Care Services, with 70% of funds directed to the shelter. Long Beach Animal Care Services also hosts a pet adoption event at the finish-line festival. Teams can be formed by families, friends, co-workers, dog owners, fitness enthusiasts, and local pet lovers. The event is also suitable for runners new to canicross. Human participants receive T-shirts and custom medals, with the top three finishers awarded translucent plaque trophies. The race is also known as the Bob Long Memorial Mutt Run.
