The SueB 5K is a run/walk in Boise, Idaho, starting from Julia Davis Park in downtown Boise. It is held each October and gives runners and walkers separate start times, with walkers leaving shortly after the runners. The event is tied directly to domestic violence awareness, and proceeds support the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, including its Endowment Fund for long-term services.
The race honors Susan “Sue B” Newby, whose family and friends came to believe after her death that she had likely been in an abusive marriage. Her sister Marj, along with friends Leslie and Teresa, started the event through the WCA to help other women leave abusive relationships before it is too late. The day also includes a public community resource fair before the 5K, so people can connect with local support services, and participants receive a race shirt.
