The TMC Arizona Distance Classic is a race day in Oro Valley, just north of Tucson, with a half marathon, quarter marathon, and 5K. Runners and walkers can choose 21.1 km, about 10.5 km, or 5 km, so the event works for people chasing a longer road race and for people who want a shorter morning out. The half marathon is part of The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix, while the quarter marathon is the Grand Prix scoring race for runners ages 14 and under and 75 and older.
The route runs through the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, with aid stations and cheer groups along the course. The course stays open and fully supported for three and a half hours, which makes room for both runners and walkers. Southern Arizona Roadrunners, a Tucson-area nonprofit focused on health and fitness through running and walking events, organizes the race. The event benefits St. Luke's Home, and finishers get a medal plus post-race refreshments.
