Grestner Silvesterlauf

The Grestner Silvesterlauf is a New Year's Eve running event held in Gresten, a town in the Scheibbs district of Lower Austria. Naturfreunde Gresten organizes it, and the race returned after a longer pause with its 36th edition. It is a local end-of-year event rather than a single-distance road race, offering options from short children's runs to a main race of about 5.7 kilometers. The main race covers 5.73 kilometers, with a student race of 2.87 kilometers and shorter distances down to a few hundred meters for younger runners. Clubs from nearby communities participate, including runners and walkers from LCU Raiffeisen Euratsfeld. The event marks the old year's final day in a practical Austrian manner: children race, walkers join, club athletes compete for age-group places, and the main field concludes the year with a fast, short road effort.
