The Russell Falls Trail Run is a 6.2 km trail race in Mt Field National Park, Tasmania, starting at 10:00am and part of the Tasmanian Trail Running Series. It is a short loop, not a long mountain race, with a course around Russell Falls, a main waterfall in the park. The event suits first-time trail runners as much of the path is well made and accessible, but it still offers experienced runners a quick, fun run on forest trail.
The loop passes Russell Falls and other waterfalls, then runs through tall mountain ash and swamp gum forest. The track is well maintained and nearly wheelchair-accessible in sections, so the footing is more forgiving than many trail races. The challenge comes from two long stair climbs on the anticlockwise route, turning a beginner-friendly distance into a challenging one. Runners participate for a compact Tasmanian trail outing: waterfalls, big trees, smooth paths, and enough climbing to make 6.2 km feel earned.
