Wilson Street serves as the starting point for the Strait Link Burnie 10, which begins near Intersport and proceeds onto a flat, fast coastal road. Since 1985, runners have gathered on Tasmania's North West coast for this event, now recognized as “Australia's Premier Community Running Event.” It offers a practical balance: fast enough for those aiming for a personal best, yet welcoming for beginners and families to participate fully.
The course directs participants toward the Bass Highway, then turns east before returning west, providing “stunning Bass Strait views throughout.” The final section is memorable for the effort it demands: a sprint finish back on Wilson Street, with spectators close enough to offer encouragement. Younger participants have a dedicated out-and-back course, ensuring the day functions as a true community race, not solely a platform for elite runners.
