Centenary Tower anchors the course, which winds around the mountainside and the edge of the Valley Lakes precinct. The Tower Trail Run feels like a proper trail day, not a road race moved to dirt. It's a "spectacular journey through the region's dormant volcanic landscape," dropping into valleys and climbing back toward open peaks.
Underfoot, expect "single-track dirt paths and stairs" and bluegum trails below the tower. There's enough climbing to earn the views across Blue Lake and Leg Of Mutton Lake. The longer loops go farther "between volcanoes and native trees," even circling dormant volcano craters. This allows beginners a taste while experienced trail and ultra runners tackle rougher sections. The course sounds quiet, exposed in places, and shaped by the area’s "unique volcanic geography," which is the intention.
