Sonnwendlauf um den Grüntensee runs clockwise around Grüntensee, a reservoir near Oy-Mittelberg in Bavaria's Oberallgäu region. Held in late June, it features adult races of approximately 10.6 km (a quarter marathon) and 21.1 km (a half marathon), alongside children's and youth races. The course is flat by Alpine standards, with about 40 meters of elevation gain per lap, making the lake loop suited for steady pacing rather than significant climbs.
The half marathon consists of two laps around the reservoir, and the shorter adult race completes one lap. The start direction was switched from the previous counter-clockwise route to the current clockwise path. This change was made because the path is wider immediately after the start, allowing the field to spread out before reaching narrower sections. All races conclude in Haslach am Grüntensee, maintaining the event's connection to the lakeside village instead of a town-center finish.
