The Travesía Popular a Nado l'Illa-Port de Benidorm is an open-water swim from Benidorm Island to the city’s port, typically scheduled for late August. Participants begin early in the morning from the island, covering approximately two nautical miles before arriving at the Port of Benidorm. This event is a popular-participation race, not exclusively for elite athletes, with entry limits in the low hundreds.
The course is direct but exposed: depart the island, swim across the bay, and conclude at the harbor in Benidorm, Alicante. The City Council’s sports, safety, mobility, and beaches departments coordinate this event with the Benidorm Nautical Club. This collaboration addresses the race’s logistical requirements, including support boats, water safety, port access, and beach coordination. Recent records indicate it is a long-standing event, with online registration and places typically filling between 320 and 350 swimmers.
