The Alpes Verdon Tour is a cyclosportive that begins in Castellane, a village situated on the Verdon river in Provence. Established in 2021, it is included in the Challenge Granfondo Alpes-Maritimes and features middle-mountain roads instead of flat racing terrain. Participants can select a long route of 123 km with 2,100 meters of elevation gain or a shorter route of approximately 86 km with 1,500 meters of elevation gain, both requiring significant climbing ability.
The course spans the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, and Var departments. Starting from Castellane, it heads towards Lac de Castillon, ascends the Saint-Barnabe and Bleine passes, and connects villages such as Saint-Auban, Comps-sur-Artuby, and Trigance. The event also incorporates a mountain-bike day on less-traveled roads within the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Haut-Var region. A past edition was canceled due to weather, which is characteristic of this mountain setting where conditions can be as significant as the distance.
