Altore Trail - Zonza focuses on the Giru di u Cavu, a demanding Corsican trail race held in late May in the Cavu Valley near Sainte-Lucie de Porto-Vecchio. The primary event is 30 km with 2,000 meters of elevation gain, presenting a significant mountain trail challenge rather than a quick road race. It is also UTMB Index listed, providing finishers with a result recognized within the UTMB system.
The organizers characterize Giru di u Cavu as “costaud,” meaning tough, a description supported by the results: the winning time exceeded four hours, with only 49 participants finishing. The event also features Sapara e Carbonari, a short 12 km loop with approximately 800 meters of climbing that encircles the rivers, alongside a 6 km loop for walkers. A distinctive aspect is that the courses are altered and kept confidential until race day, meaning runners register with knowledge of the distance and climb but not the specific route details.
