Crapahute au clair de lune is a night trail race held in Terranjou, within the Maine-et-Loire vineyards. It begins with a shared evening start from the stadium in Martigné-Briand. Participants can select either a 9 km or 18 km course, both of which traverse vineyard tracks and nature paths instead of paved roads. Organized by AS Martigné-Briand, the event limits participation to approximately 500 runners, fostering a local countryside atmosphere rather than a large-scale event.
The 18 km course incorporates a section along the Layon river, providing a distinct feature during the run through the vines. Local winegrowers facilitate the vineyard portions of the race, and volunteers play a key role in its organization. The finish line resembles a village gathering more than a standard timed event, featuring a rock concert, fouaces, and mulled wine, with on-site amenities including showers and bag drop.
