SwimRun Gorge de la Loire - L is the long-format race at the Swimrun des Gorges de la Loire, held in Aurec-sur-Loire, within France’s Haute-Loire department. It is a swimrun, where competitors alternate between running and open-water swimming. Unlike triathlon, they do not stop in transition areas to change kit. They swim in their shoes, run in a neoprene wetsuit, and carry the same gear from start to finish. The long race covers approximately 38 to 40 km, with about 1,310 m of climbing in listed editions.
The course utilizes the Loire gorges as its primary terrain, meaning the day is structured around repeated transitions between water and trail, rather than a single swim followed by a single run. The event also provides shorter formats, ranging from discovery distance to medium distance, and includes a kids race in some editions. Racing was traditionally conducted mainly in pairs, with online partner matching available for those without a teammate; recent formats also permit solo entries. The organizer is RP EVENTS, and the race holds a sustainable triathlon label alongside a regional silver label for eco-responsible events.
