The Trail des Ebihens is a 20 km coastal trail race in Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, a fishing village on the Cotes-d'Armor coast of Brittany. Runners start and finish in the village, typically in late May, with mild race-period temperatures around 16 to 19 C but the typical changeable seaside weather. The event has run since 2003 and is built around the Ebihens archipelago, a small group of islands accessible on foot at low tide or by boat. That tide window gives the race its unusual feel: this is not a smooth road effort, but a shore-and-path run where footing matters.
The route begins through Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, passes the abbey, then drops toward the sea and heads for the Ebihens. Much of the course uses paths, beaches, and tidal flats, with mud, seaweed, rocks, and sand underfoot. After leaving the island section, runners follow the east side of the peninsula along the beaches, pass the small ports of La Houle Causseul and Le Chatelet, cross toward the ruins of Guildo castle above the Arguenon river, then return by the GR 34 and Plage des Haas before climbing back toward the finish. Aid stations are placed at La Houle port, Guildo castle, and Plage des Haas. At the finish, runners get access to showers and massages, and the local food is very Breton: sausage galettes, crepes, and sardines. Friends and family are not left waiting in the village, since a free hike on the peninsula is organized for them while the race is underway.
