Just outside Wistow, the Vale of York Half Marathon maintains a straightforward approach: a flat, fast course on rural roads between York and Selby. It offers the atmosphere of a local runner’s personal best day rather than a large-scale event, and by 2025, it had completed its 11th year.
The route is a single loop on scenic, closed roads, sharing the same start and finish area. The course is suitable for wheelchairs. Expect a crowd that supports personal bests, along with a thoughtful low-waste option: participants can choose whether to purchase the finisher’s technical T-shirt and whether to accept the medal. If the medal is declined, organizers donate £2 to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
