Corsa di San Giovanni is an 11 km road race in Capestrano, a historic village in the Apennine mountains of Abruzzo. It is connected to the feast of San Giovanni da Capestrano, so the race is part of a local celebration rather than a standalone running event.
The route goes through vineyards and olive groves, with clear-water views along the way, then passes Capestrano’s castle and nearby historic monuments. Awards are given after the finish: overall and category winners receive Castelli ceramics in a wooden frame plus local products, while the top three in each category also get typical local products. The first 150 registered runners receive an event backpack-bag with a small local product and tourist material, and there is a separate activity program for people accompanying runners.
