Hessenheemcross is a cross-country race in Markelo, beginning and ending at the Vijf Heuvels swimming pool on Potdijk. It is a predominantly unpaved event with races for adults and younger runners, offering 5 km and 10 km options alongside shorter youth distances down to 1.5 km. The race is affiliated with AV Goor '75 and the Atletiekunie, and it is included in the MD Stoffering CrossCircuit van het Oosten, but runners may also register for it individually.
The course keeps runners off paved roads for nearly its entirety, making it more akin to a traditional local cross-country run than a road race with some unpaved sections. Start numbers are collected inside the swimming pool building, which also provides access to toilets, changing rooms, showers, refreshments, and parking near the start and finish. The event was formerly known as the Bovenbergcross, allows late registration, and limits participation to 1,000 runners.
