Halddemarsjen is a traditional hike and uphill race in northern Norway, held annually at the end of August. It begins in Kåfjord, approximately 15 km south of Alta, and ascends to the former northern lights observatory on Halddetoppen, reaching 907 meters above sea level. Participants can choose to hike or compete in a timed race, with the same path accommodating both steady walkers and those aiming to set a new climb record.
The course covers about 9 km along a reasonably maintained track, presenting a significant uphill challenge. The average gradient is 10%, increasing to 20% in the final kilometer. Hikers should anticipate a two to three-hour ascent, contingent on their physical condition, while the race record stands at 46 minutes and 15 seconds. An open-route option allows individuals unable to participate on the main event day to still complete a summer or autumn trek to Haldde.
