Markus-løpet is a road race held around Vitengarden in Nærbø, offering timed 5 km and 10 km races alongside an untimed 3 km walk/run. It takes place in September and generates funds for childhood cancer research and Kreftomsorg Rogaland, a private foundation providing counselling, guidance, and social activities for cancer patients, their relatives, and bereaved families.
The 3 km option is designed for walkers, joggers, families, and groups, while the timed races cater to runners seeking a recorded time. The event also attracts workplace teams; companies can enter the 5 km and 10 km events, with team results determined by the average time of their five fastest runners. An additional award recognizes the company with the highest number of participants. This marks the fifth year of Markus-løpet, which also highlights the gold ribbon, the international symbol for childhood cancer.
