From Hikoikoi Reserve, the Hutt Half Marathon heads directly into river-and-coast running along the Hutt River stopbanks, the Petone foreshore, and the waterfront trails towards Days Bay. It has the character of a practical club race, organized by Hutt Valley Harriers, accommodating runners, walkers, families, and children without becoming overly complicated.
The course consists of flat out-and-back sections on shared pathways, stopbanks, and waterfront areas, making it suitable for experienced runners seeking pace as well as recreational participants enjoying a relaxed morning. The current route utilizes the recently upgraded Tepua Horo Nuku pathway before the turn near Days Bay. Younger participants have a dedicated timed Cool Kids event with age-group prizes, contributing to a family-friendly atmosphere at the finish.
