Orust Runt sends runners across Orust from Morlanda pier on the island’s west side to Svanesund in the east, finishing outside Svanhallen. The main event is a 27 km trail race on small paths and marked trail, with a noon start and separate women’s and men’s classes. The organisers call it perhaps the toughest terrain race on Sweden’s west coast, and the route’s hills, changing ground, and exposed island terrain explain why.
The course follows part of Kuststigen Bohuslän and changes constantly underfoot, so it is more of a rugged point-to-point trail day than a road race. Hikers share the event, with 27 km and 16 km walking options, and buses from Svanesund take participants out to their starts. One local touch is the King of the Hill prize at Svens Altare, awarded to the first man and woman who reach that point and still finish the race.
