The Bird Dog Breakaway is an October community race day featuring a 5K run, a 2-mile walk, and races for younger children. It also includes a Derby Dash Kids Race, a Pup Trot Toddler Race, an Adaptive Walk for participants with special needs, and team options for schools and companies with groups of 10 or more.
The race is in its 19th year and raises money for the Center for New Beginnings, which serves children and adolescents with special needs. The center supports more than 60 children and families across Waynesboro, Evans, and Millen, offering ABA therapy for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities. The “Good Boy” donor option aligns with the Bird Dog theme and allows non-runners to support the cause.
