The Bandera Endurance Trail Race takes place in early January at Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera, Texas. It offers 100K, 50K, and 25K distances, along with a Youth Trail Run for children 12 and under. The 100K begins Saturday as a standalone event, with a 25-hour time limit for completion. The primary 50K and 25K races are held on Sunday. A limited number of participants can join a non-competitive 50K on Saturday, though this entry is not eligible for overall awards.
The course features rugged Texas Hill Country trails, reflected in the direct tagline: "No whiners, wimps, or wusses." Organizers characterize the route as demanding, with terrain that can cut, sting, or bite. The 100K attracts participants from across Texas, other states, and internationally. It also functions as a Western States Endurance Race qualifier, contributing to the presence of strong ultrarunners despite a challenging finish rate; in one instance, approximately one-third of 100K starters did not complete the race.
