After a seven-year absence, the Cascade Cycling Classic Criterium will return to Bend, Oregon, in June. This closed-circuit road bike race carries the name of the Cascade Cycling Classic, which for almost forty years was the longest-running elite road stage race in the United States.
The original Classic was based in Central Oregon and frequently attracted many of North America’s top riders and teams. Its past winners include Levi Leipheimer, Lance Armstrong, Óscar Sevilla, Francisco Mancebo, Robin Carpenter, Emma Grant, Tara Whitten, and Kristin McGrath. Bart Bowen transitioned from race winner to race director. The returning criterium is presented by the Horner Cycling Foundation, a Central Oregon organization established to support junior road cycling development after the region lacked a clear pathway for riders under 18.
