At the Commodore 24 Hour Challenge, runners return to the start line every half hour and must cover one mile before the next segment begins. This USATF-sanctioned event takes place in October at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida. Solo and two-person team entries are available for runners age 16 and up. The full format totals 48 separate miles over 24 hours; a fast mile does not grant extra rest later.
The one-mile loop starts and finishes by the college baseball field. It heads west through a roundabout toward the Military and Veterans Resource Center, passes the parking area by Student Union West, and returns through the main parking lot to the baseball stadium. The rules are straightforward: everyone starts each segment together, each mile must be finished within its 30-minute window, and missed finishes are recorded by the official race timer. Crews, family, and friends may set up at the venue. The race provides special snacks and food through the night, while runners are responsible for their own 24-hour food and hydration.
