The Echo Triathlon takes place at Echo State Park’s Dry Hollow Campground, located near Coalville, Utah. The competition centers around the reservoir and Echo Canyon. This multi-sport event, held in July, offers Sprint, Olympic, and Long Distance triathlon formats. Athletes can also choose Duathlon, Aquabike, and Aquathon options if they wish to omit one discipline. The Sprint involves a 750-meter swim, a 14-mile bike ride, and a 3.1-mile run. The Olympic distance increases the swim to 1500 meters, with a 25-mile bike and a 6.2-mile run. The Long Distance features a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike, and a 13.1-mile run.
The swim portion is conducted in the South Beach area of Echo State Park. The cycling route crosses Echo Canyon, and the running segment follows the Historic Rail Trail. Both the bike and run courses are noted for being fast and flat, making the event accessible for beginners while offering a swift route for seasoned competitors. Echo Triathlon stands as one of Northern Utah’s significant multi-sport gatherings, boasting over twenty years of history and frequently selling out its registration early. A practical aspect for participants is the on-site camping, allowing athletes to stay overnight adjacent to the finish line.
