The Maine Running Hall of Fame 5K, honoring Julius Marzul, is a Sunday evening 5K in Portland, Maine, starting at 5:15 PM. Walkers are welcome alongside runners. The race benefits The Maine Running Hall of Fame and commemorates Julius Marzul, a World War II veteran with a 28-year running history who passed away at age 78, 100 yards from the finish of the Maine Half Marathon.
The course is a counter-clockwise loop around Back Cove, beginning at the Back Cove Soccer Fields and concluding on Baxter Boulevard. Pine Tree Race Services manages the race direction and timing. Cash prizes are awarded to the overall winners, with additional awards for age-group and team categories. The event maintains a competitive aspect, evidenced by course records of 15:37 for men and 18:11 for women, while also preserving a local, social atmosphere. Early registrants receive race shirts, and a complimentary pizza buffet is provided at Otto's Pizza post-race.
