The New Balance RunningLane Cross Country Championships gather high school cross country runners at John Hunt Park in Huntsville for a fast late-season meet in cool December weather. The event is structured around championship-style racing, featuring separate Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Blue divisions for boys and girls. Additionally, there is a 2 Mile race for 1st-8th graders and a Community Race. This is a significant event, attracting athletes from 44 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada, with participants holding sub-15 and sub-17 credentials.
The course at John Hunt Park is a key factor in drawing serious competition, as runners anticipate fast times on a layout that favors speed. The largest contingents of athletes hail from Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Colorado, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Further entries come from states like California, New York, Washington, Hawaii, and British Columbia. Awards are presented for the youth race and the main divisions, and live results alongside a Milesplit stream allow families, teammates, and coaches to follow the races remotely.
