Terra de Gigantes is a 303-kilometer ultramarathon in Portugal. It begins at the country’s highest point and concludes in Nazaré on the Atlantic coast. Participants are allotted 74 hours to finish. The course involves approximately 11,000 meters of elevation gain, presenting a lengthy mountain-to-sea challenge where sleep, navigation, and pacing are as critical as speed.
The route is point-to-point, with runners moving between the organizer’s support bases while carrying their own supplies for the intervening sections. Navigation relies solely on GPS, adding a practical difficulty to the demands of distance and elevation. The race holds UTMB Index status in the 100M category. Recent results indicate a select, competitive field: 47 finishers, with the leading runners completing the course in under two days, and many others approaching the 74-hour time limit.
