The Hamburg Half Marathon begins near the Reeperbahn, sending runners on a 21.1 km road race through the city each summer. It ranks among Germany’s larger half marathons, drawing close to 10,000 participants annually, with the main race employing wave starts from morning into late morning. The event also features a children’s and school run, alongside a skating half marathon, indicating the weekend caters to multiple participant types.
The course winds past the Elbe, the Inner and Outer Alster lakes, Stephansplatz, and central Hamburg, concluding at St. Petersburger Straße by the Messegelände, opposite Planten un Blomen. The race has taken place since 1995, holds a World Athletics Label Road Races designation, and is managed by BMS Sportveranstaltungs GbR. Participants have a 4.5-hour gross time limit, with seven aid stations available on the course. The preceding day includes an 800-meter Bear Run and a skating event.
