Werratal-Triathlon 2026

The Werratal-Triathlon takes place at Strandbad Breitungen, with swimming in Breitunger See. Recent editions have been held in the summer. Triathlonverein Werratal e. V. from Bad Salzungen organizes the event, which has now passed its thirty-sixth edition. The race adopted a cross-triathlon format at its 37th edition, shifting from a standard road triathlon to an off-road event where the bike leg is particularly significant. The course begins with a 500-meter swim in the lake. Cyclists then complete two laps on the Pleß, each with 200 meters of elevation gain, followed by a 5-kilometer run around the water. Mountain bikes are mandatory for the Sprint category and advised for the Jedermann race, indicating this triathlon is suited for participants prepared for trails and ascents over flat road speed. In a recent women's race, Anett Kumpf exited the water first, Anika Godehardt overtook her on the bike, and they began the run together, with Godehardt ultimately winning in 1:22:40.
