The Maratón Alpino Madrileño begins in Cercedilla, a mountain town in the Sierra de Guadarrama near Madrid. This mid-June mountain marathon covers 44 km and is organized by Agrupación Deportiva Marathon with support from Cercedilla’s town council. The race is set in trail-running terrain, featuring forest tracks, altitude, significant climbing, and a stated 5,800 m of positive elevation gain.
The 44 km trail race is the main event, and the same weekend also hosts the shorter Cross Alpino del Telégrafo. Demand is high, with bibs selling out for both formats. The event has a long history, with over two dozen editions, and it returned to the Sierra de Guadarrama following a successful relaunch. Expect mountain runners seeking a challenging, high-country marathon rather than a fast road course.
