The disagreement involves support from the Paeria, Lleida’s city council. The organizer stated that planning for a fourth edition had begun before receiving written notification that council backing would be withdrawn. Runner participation also seems to be a factor, with total entries decreasing from 458 in the first edition to 394 in a subsequent one, and marathon finishers dropping from 262 to 143. A representative for the city's sports department commented that the race had not drawn sufficient participants in its existing format.
