The Prueba Vitoria Gran Fondo begins in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Spanish Basque Country, and takes place in June. This road cycling cyclosportive in Euskadi offers two routes: the 100 km Medio Fondo with 1,170 m of elevation gain, or the 207 km Gran Fondo with 3,300 m of elevation gain. As the largest cyclosportive event in the Basque Country, the day is organized for a large number of participants, not just a small group of racers.
The route crosses the Álava region, following roads that wind through mountains, open countryside, and small Basque villages. Participants will pass the Ullíbarri-Gamboa reservoir, the Basque Country's largest lake. The course also features Dolmen El Sotillo, a megalithic site in Rioja Alavesa, and Urizaharra, a small walled village. After the ride, Vitoria-Gasteiz, particularly its medieval old town, provides a fitting place to relax.
