Via Romana starts runners in Carpineto, a village in Haute-Corse, heading into the Corsican Regional Natural Park. This mountain trail event, organized since 2001 and typically held in late July, offers three main races: the 12 km Trail Decouverte, the 22 km Trail Court, and the 50 km L'Endurance Trail. The 12 km race attracts the most participants, whereas the 50 km course is designed for those prepared for extended climbs over Corsican terrain.
The courses traverse Castagniccia using old mule tracks, passing chestnut groves, ancient beech forests, chapels, churches, convents, sheepfolds, springs, and fountains. Higher segments follow ridges, providing views of the Corsican mountain ranges and the Mediterranean Sea. Via Romana is also part of the Mare e Monti international circuit and the mountain race challenge. The event also features mini-trails around Carpineto for younger participants.
