Pendine Sands Races feature hot rod beach racing on Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire, South Wales. The event follows in the tyre tracks of land-speed pioneers who used the same beach a century ago. Held over a September weekend, racing typically begins around 10:30 daily and continues for five to six hours, with the tide dictating the precise schedule. Established in 2013, the event now attracts traditional hot rods and customs from outside the UK.
The format is straightforward: each vehicle receives a half-mile run-up followed by a timed, one-sixteenth-mile flying section. Eligible vehicles are pre-1949 hot rods and customs. Racing is exclusive to Vintage Hot Rod Association members, with classes organized by vehicle and engine type. Some cars are prepared specifically to pursue class records, and the fastest antique hot rods can exceed 130 mph on the sand. Access to the pits is restricted to racers and teams, while spectators can view the event without charge.
