The Siteia Aquathlon is a short swim-run race held in Siteia, Lasithi, on the eastern side of Crete. It begins in the morning in June, following the classic aquathlon format: running shoes, an open water swim, and then running shoes once more. The individual race is compact yet demanding, featuring 5 km of running divided around a 1 km swim, making it suitable for athletes seeking a swift multisport event without a cycling component.
The race consists of a 2.5 km run, a 1 km open-water swim, and a final 2.5 km run. Wetsuits are prohibited, but a race bib, swimming cap, and electronic timing chip are mandatory. Lifeguards monitor the swim course, and water stations are positioned along the running route. The Sitian A.O. is the organizer, and the entry fee is reasonable, contributing to its local, practical atmosphere instead of a large commercial event feel.
