Informazioni su questa gara
The JAL Mukatsuku Double Marathon takes place in June on the Mukatsuku Peninsula in Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, overlooking the Sea of Japan. The primary event is an 84.39 km ultra marathon, precisely twice the distance of a standard marathon, with a 13-hour time limit and a field restricted to 629 participants. A single full marathon is also offered, featuring a 10-hour limit, alongside a roughly 30 km Terrace Walk. This event is designed for determined walkers, those completing their first full marathon, and experienced runners seeking a greater challenge. It is one of three marathons sponsored by JAL, the others being the JAL Honolulu Marathon and the JAL Chitose International Marathon.
The course begins and ends at Yuya General Athletic Park, crossing the peninsula's inclines, coastal routes, and rural scenery instead of a simple city circuit. Participants will pass landmarks such as Moto-no-sumi Shrine, a shrine situated on a cliff that was previously recognized by CNN as one of Japan's most scenic locations, and the Higoshirata Rice Terraces, designated as one of Japan's notable terraced-rice-field sites. The hilly terrain is fundamental to the race's character; it emphasizes endurance over speed. Aid stations provide regional cuisine, and the assistance from volunteers is considered integral to the event, not merely logistical support. The victors are awarded JAL domestic flight tickets for the Haneda to Yamaguchi Ube route.
