Viana do Castelo

Viana do Castelo is a coastal town in northwest Portugal where the Lima River meets the Atlantic, making for flat riverside running but easy access to the Minho hills just north. The MTB Marathon 5 Peaks and 16th MTB Raid SodiGás – Margens do Cávado both exploit the region's technical singletrack and river valleys within 30–40km. Road cyclists use the town as a launchpad for longer routes into Peneda-Gerês National Park (50km inland, 900m peaks), while runners stick to the promenade or shorter circuits in the compact medieval centre.
