Informazioni su questa gara
The Millinocket Marathon & Half is a free-to-enter marathon and half marathon in Millinocket, Maine, run in December and hosted by Crow Athletics. It began as a self-timed, flash-mob-style run to aid a North Woods mill town after the Great Northern Paper Company closure impacted the local economy. There is no formal entry fee, but runners are asked to donate during registration so volunteer organizers can cover timing, course certification, toilets, buses, insurance, and other basic costs. Remaining funds go to local charities and community groups.
The marathon starts at Veterans Memorial Park on Penobscot Avenue, while the half starts nearby at 33 Penobscot Avenue. Both courses are USATF certified, qualifying routes for major marathons including Boston and New York. Runner's World featured the story soon after the race began, and the field grew to include runners from all 50 states and beyond. The objective is direct: come to Millinocket, run the race, spend money in town, and support a place that built the event around giving more than receiving. The Maine Sports Commission estimates that race weekend brings $2.5 million to $3 million into the local economy annually.
