Rubey Rescue Run

The Rubey Rescue Run is a dog-friendly autumn race in Aspen, focused on shelter animals and runners alike. It is a timed 6K, approximately 3.7 miles, starting at Koch Park. Participants can run or walk, with dogs welcome with their owners. The event has a Halloween theme, encouraging pets to wear costumes. The top three women and men receive cash prizes. The current course follows the Marolt foot path and open space. The race originally started as a 5K uphill challenge from the base of Buttermilk Mountain to the Cliff House. All net proceeds benefit Friends of the Aspen Animal Shelter, the shelter’s nonprofit branch. The race originated from Meaghan Rubey’s ongoing work with rescue dogs and animal welfare groups. The event includes pet costume prizes, raffle prizes, and food trucks in addition to the timed race.
