La Grand Traverse, nata nel 1998, porta i partecipanti da Crested Butte, attraversando le Elk Mountains, fino ad Aspen. L'idea è venuta dalle rotte postali degli anni '80 dell'Ottocento che collegavano quelle città minerarie del Colorado.
All'inizio era una Extraordinary Backcountry Ski Race, ma ora include anche gare di corsa in montagna estive ed eventi in bici. La gara è una raccolta fondi importante per Crested Butte Nordic.
