Citylauf Villach is a Friday-evening running event held in July in Villach, a town in Carinthia, southern Austria, situated near the Italian and Slovenian borders. The primary race is a 6 km city run commencing and concluding at Standesamtplatz. Runners begin at 19:30, following the conclusion of races for younger age groups. The event also features a 500 m Kinderlauf for children and a 2 km Jugendlauf for participants under 18. Thus, the evening focuses on shorter distances rather than a long-distance road race.
The 6 km course consists of three laps through the town center, crossing the Old Town, following the Drau river, and crossing two bridges. The route is not entirely flat, adding a degree of challenge to the short distance beyond a basic city circuit. Recent main race fields have typically comprised a few hundred participants, ranging from under 200 to nearly 300 finishers. Age categories extend from U20 through five-year masters groups up to M/W70. The children's race shares the same start and finish location as the main event and includes U6, U8, and U10 categories.
