The Dirndltalrace is a mountain bike and gravel race series centered near Frankenfels in the Lower Austrian Prealps, with its primary event hub at Laubenbachmühle train station. This station serves as the start and finish for the DTR and is the operational core of the Mariazellerbahn railway, allowing participants to arrive by train directly at the venue. The series includes multiple race lengths, ranging from the 20 km Fun Race with 800 m of elevation gain to the 40 km Trophy Race with 1,600 m of elevation gain, in addition to a Kids/Youth Race.
The Adventure Race begins at Rathausplatz in St. Pölten and concludes at Laubenbachmühle, offering both MTB and gravel categories. The Gravel Race is an unsupported, point-to-point journey from the Lower Austrian capital towards Frankenfels, emphasizing self-reliance rather than a closed-road urban race. Frankenfels is situated in the upper Pielach Valley along the Mariazellerbahn and naturally functions as a gathering point for mountain bikers. Naturfreunde Frankenfels also facilitates a route preview for children and adults, providing local riders and families an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the course prior to the event.
