Staufenlauf 2026

The Staufenlauf is a short, steep mountain race in the Dreiländereck, a region spanning three countries. Runners pursue a single objective: 1,000 metres of elevation gain, with only 150 starting places. Starts are staggered every 30 seconds from 10:00, and participants may choose to use poles or run without them. The course centers on a demanding ascent to the summit, offering a 360-degree view if conditions permit. Organizers characterize it as one of the most challenging mountain runs; one past edition proceeded despite rain and difficult trail conditions. The participants include not only fast specialists but also the youngest and oldest starters, who were recognized. Race proceeds benefit Staufenpatenkinder, with a reported 13,000 euros raised.
